A golden-yellow body is crossed by a series of deep black vertical bands, creating a pattern that becomes even more striking as the fish grows.

It is an active, intelligent swimmer rather than a quiet community fish. Leporinus spend much of their time exploring the aquarium, grazing surfaces and investigating anything edible, so they are best kept in a tank designed around their activity level and eventual adult size.

Care & keeping

Species:Leporinus fasciatus
Current size: 5–6 cm
Adult size: approximately 25–30 cm
Temperature: 23–28°C
pH: 6.0–7.5
Recommended tank: 300L+
Difficulty: Intermediate

Provide substantial swimming room, wood and rock structure, excellent filtration and a secure lid.
