Why you'll love this Betta

The large pectoral fins are the key feature, while colour can vary. Give the fish a balanced, planted environment to appreciate its shape, colours and confident exploratory behaviour.

Care essentials

  • Scientific name: Betta splendens (domestic ornamental variety)
  • Recommended tank: a fully cycled heated aquarium of at least 20 litres for one fish, with a secure lid
  • Temperature: 24–28°C
  • pH: around 6.5–7.5; maintain stable water quality
  • Diet: appropriate high-quality Betta pellets supplemented with varied frozen or live feeds
  • Adult size: approximately 6–7 cm including finnage, depending on individual and strain
  • Temperament: territorial; never keep males together
  • Care level: beginner to intermediate with stable heating and filtration

Habitat and tankmates

Choose soft planting, driftwood and resting leaves, with low-current filtration and easy access to the surface for breathing. Avoid fin-nipping species or competitive feeders. Assess tankmate compatibility individually; a peaceful single-fish display is often ideal. Acclimate gently after delivery.
