Assassin Snail

The Assassin Snail (Anentome helena) is one of the most unique and useful freshwater snails available in the aquarium hobby. Recognisable by its striking yellow and dark brown striped shell, this fascinating species is highly valued for its ability to help control populations of unwanted pest snails. Its attractive appearance, peaceful nature towards fish, and beneficial role in the aquarium make it a favourite among aquarists.

Unlike most freshwater snails, Assassin Snails are carnivorous and actively hunt small pest snails, making them a natural solution for snail overpopulation. They also scavenge leftover food, sinking pellets, frozen foods, and other protein-rich foods when pest snails are unavailable. Their slow, methodical hunting behaviour adds an interesting dynamic to any aquarium.

Assassin Snails are easy to care for and thrive in community aquariums with stable water conditions. They spend much of their time exploring the substrate, plants, and décor, occasionally burying themselves beneath the sand while searching for food.
