For livestock orders only: if livestock arrives deceased (DOA), submit the claim within 2 hours of delivery with clear photographs of the unopened bag, clear photographs of the livestock inside the bag, and your order number.

Approved DOA claims may receive a replacement or store credit at Glass & Gill’s discretion, subject to the policy terms. Non-livestock returns are handled under the standard returns policy.

The Assorted Peacock Cichlid — HQ is a striking African cichlid offered at 8-10CM. Lake Malawi lineage; captive-bred ornamental selection. Its appeal comes from the combination of bold colour, intelligent behaviour and the unmistakable territorial presence that makes African cichlid aquariums so engaging.

This is not a generic community fish. Semi-aggressive; males territorial, generally less combative than many mbuna. A well-planned aquarium, stable mineral-rich water where appropriate, strong filtration and deliberate stocking make a major difference to long-term colour, behaviour and condition.

Care Requirements

  • Adult size: 12-15 cm depending on line
  • Minimum aquarium: 250 L+; 120 cm footprint preferred
  • Temperature: 24-27°C
  • pH: 7.6-8.6
  • Diet: Omnivore with strong insect/invertebrate component; quality African cichlid pellets, spirulina-based foods and suitable frozen foods
  • Care level: Intermediate

Behaviour & Compatibility

Best with appropriately sized Malawi cichlids of compatible temperament. Avoid tiny community fish, long-finned species and overcrowded combinations without adequate rockwork.

Good tank-mate direction: compatible African cichlids with similar adult size, temperament and water chemistry; robust Synodontis can be considered in larger African biotope-style systems where appropriate.

Avoid: small peaceful community fish, delicate long-finned fish, incompatible water-parameter species, and overcrowding that prevents weaker individuals from escaping dominant fish.

Aquascaping Notes

Use sand, open swimming space and broken rock structures that create visual barriers without turning the aquarium into a dense mbuna rock pile.
