For a natural-looking dam or pond edge, indigenous Bullrush brings tall, upright foliage and the familiar brown, cylindrical flower heads. It’s a vigorous wetland plant best used where its size and spread are welcome.

Growing and care

Botanical name: Typha capensis.

Position: full sun or partial shade in permanently damp, boggy loam at the pond margin; this is a marginal wetland plant, not a deep-water floating lily.

Size: can reach approximately 1.5–3 metres tall and spread 50–100 cm or farther where uncontrolled. Contain in a robust planting zone or managed pot, and cut back or divide as required to prevent it dominating a small pond edge.

Koi ponds: excellent for a separate vegetated margin or purpose-built wetland filter; protect the roots from uprooting and do not count on it to replace mechanical or biological filtration.

What arrives

This is a living nursery plant. Leaf count, mature size, seasonal dormancy, flower colour intensity and whether it is in bloom at dispatch will vary. Supplier photography shows typical mature plants, not a promise that your order will arrive flowering. Confirm nursery readiness before dispatch and use suitable live-plant packaging.
