Make a bold statement in a planted aquarium with the Gold Dragon Halfmoon Plakat Betta, a male Betta splendens selectively bred for striking metallic gold and ivory-white dragon-scale colouring. Its plakat form offers compact, comparatively short finnage with the characteristic broad halfmoon-style tail profile, creating a distinctive display fish that looks especially attractive against dark substrate and lush green aquatic plants. Individual colour balance, scale coverage and fin details vary naturally from fish to fish.

Why You’ll Love Him

  • Dragon-scale colouring: iridescent gold and pale metallic scales give him a striking, armoured appearance.
  • Halfmoon Plakat shape: a compact, shorter-finned alternative to traditional longfin Bettas.
  • Interactive personality: Bettas readily investigate their surroundings and recognise feeding routines.
  • Showpiece potential: a beautiful centrepiece for a carefully aquascaped, dedicated freshwater display.
  • Plant-friendly setup: works beautifully with Anubias, Java Fern, floating cover and gentle filtration.

Care Requirements

  • Scientific name: Betta splendens (domestic Gold Dragon Halfmoon Plakat morph)
  • Sex: Male
  • Supplier size: approximately 4–6 cm
  • Recommended tank: 20 litres or larger for a single specimen; more swimming space is beneficial.
  • Temperature: 25–28 °C with a reliable adjustable heater.
  • pH: approximately 6.5–7.5, with stable water conditions preferred.
  • Diet: high-quality Betta pellets, supplemented with suitable frozen or live invertebrate foods in sensible portions.
  • Temperament: territorial; house male Bettas separately from other male Bettas.
  • Difficulty: beginner to intermediate, provided the aquarium is cycled, heated and maintained.

Tank Setup & Aquascaping

Choose a mature aquarium with gentle water movement, a secure lid or cover and unobstructed access to the water surface for breathing. Provide plants, smooth décor and resting spots near the surface. Avoid sharp plastic ornaments or strong currents that could damage fins or cause persistent stress. A Betta-safe sponge filter is a practical filtration option in smaller setups.

Behaviour and Compatibility

Gold Dragon Plakats have the individual character and territorial instincts associated with male Bettas. A dedicated single-Betta setup is the most predictable choice. Community housing requires suitable tank dimensions, gentle tank mates and close observation; do not combine with other male Bettas or persistent fin-nippers.

Feeding and Ongoing Care

Offer small, varied meals and remove leftovers promptly. Maintain stable temperature, zero measurable ammonia and nitrite, sensible nitrate levels and regular partial water changes. Introduce new livestock slowly and watch for changes in activity, appetite or finnage.
