LIVESTOCK DOA

For livestock orders only: if livestock arrives deceased (DOA), submit the claim within 2 hours of delivery with clear photographs of the unopened bag, clear photographs of the livestock inside the bag, and your order number.

Approved DOA claims may receive a replacement or store credit at Glass & Gill’s discretion, subject to the policy terms. Non-livestock returns are handled under the standard returns policy.

The Green Jewel Cichlid is a striking African cichlid offered at 4-6CM. West/Central African Hemichromis lineage; captive-bred trade form. Its appeal comes from the combination of bold colour, intelligent behaviour and the unmistakable territorial presence that makes African cichlid aquariums so engaging.

This is not a generic community fish. Territorial and strongly aggressive when breeding. A well-planned aquarium, stable mineral-rich water where appropriate, strong filtration and deliberate stocking make a major difference to long-term colour, behaviour and condition.

Care Requirements

  • Adult size: 10-15 cm depending on lineage
  • Minimum aquarium: 150 L+; larger for mixed cichlid setups
  • Temperature: 23-28°C
  • pH: 6.0-7.8
  • Diet: Omnivore/carnivore-leaning; quality cichlid pellets, insect-based foods, frozen foods and some vegetable matter
  • Care level: Intermediate

Behaviour & Compatibility

Best kept with robust similarly sized fish in a spacious aquarium, or as a carefully managed pair. Avoid peaceful community fish, long-finned species and cramped mixed-cichlid setups.

Good tank-mate direction: compatible African cichlids with similar adult size, temperament and water chemistry; robust Synodontis can be considered in larger African biotope-style systems where appropriate.

Avoid: small peaceful community fish, delicate long-finned fish, incompatible water-parameter species, and overcrowding that prevents weaker individuals from escaping dominant fish.

Aquascaping Notes

Provide rockwork, wood and multiple sight breaks. Expect digging and rearranging, especially when a pair forms.
