The Albino Hi-Fin Sailfin Pleco is hard to miss. A pale cream-to-gold body, red eyes and a huge sail-like dorsal fin give it a completely different look from the dark wild-type sailfin pleco. As the fish grows, that oversized dorsal becomes one of its defining features.

Its small sale size can be misleading. This is a large-growing Pterygoplichthys, not a compact bristlenose, and it should only be chosen for an aquarium that can handle a very large adult and the waste load that comes with it.

Care & keeping

Species:Pterygoplichthys gibbiceps
Trade L-numbers: commonly associated with L165/L083
Current size: 4–6 cm
Adult size: up to around 45–50 cm
Temperature: 23–27°C
pH: 6.0–8.0
Difficulty: Intermediate

Provide a very large aquarium, powerful filtration, driftwood and broad floor space. Feed vegetables, algae-based wafers, natural biofilm and a varied sinking diet.

Temperament & compatibility

Generally peaceful with other fish, but large adults need room and can compete with other large plecos for preferred shelters and feeding areas.

Best for: large display aquariums where you want a bright albino sailfin pleco with dramatic adult proportions.
