The LDA33 / L142 Snowball Pleco gets its name from the large pale spots scattered across a dark, heavy-set body. The pattern is simple, but the contrast is dramatic — especially once the fish settles into a dark, natural aquascape and the white-to-cream spots begin to stand out.

This is a substantial Baryancistrus, not a small decorative pleco. It needs warm, highly oxygenated water, strong filtration and enough space to develop into a large adult.

Care & keeping

Species: Baryancistrus sp.
L-numbers: LDA33 / L142
Current size: 5–8 cm
Adult size: approximately 25–30 cm
Temperature: 26–30°C
pH: approximately 5.0–7.0
Difficulty: Advanced

Use a mature aquarium with strong current, high oxygen, powerful filtration and secure rock or wood shelters. Feed a balanced omnivorous diet including vegetable matter, biofilm and quality sinking foods.

Temperament & compatibility

Usually peaceful with other fish, but can become territorial with similar bottom-dwellers. Provide enough caves and floor space to reduce competition.

Best for: experienced pleco keepers looking for a large, high-contrast collector Baryancistrus.
