The Black Halfmoon Plakat has a predominantly deep black finish and the compact short-fin form of a Plakat, with a broad tail when displaying.

Why you'll love this Betta

This is not the same form as the longer-finned Black Halfmoon Betta already on the website. A carefully planned aquascape with living plants, shaded resting areas and calm flow brings out this ornamental Betta's natural movement and individuality.

Quick care facts

  • Species: Betta splendens (domestic ornamental form)
  • Minimum aquarium: 20 litres for one fish, heated, mature and covered
  • Temperature: 24–28°C
  • pH: approximately 6.5–7.5, with stable water chemistry
  • Adult size: usually approximately 6–7 cm including fins, depending on strain
  • Diet: quality Betta pellets, plus appropriately sized frozen/live treats
  • Temperament: territorial and individual; never keep two males together
  • Difficulty: beginner to intermediate

Creating the right home

Provide gentle filtration, broad resting leaves near the surface, easy access to air, and a secure lid. Avoid strong currents and fin-nipping tankmates. Observe interactions closely if sharing a larger aquarium with peaceful species. Acclimate gradually after arrival and offer a quiet settling period.
