Soft colour can be just as striking as bold colour, and the Premium Pastel Blue Red Plakat Female Betta proves it. Her body carries a delicate blue-lavender wash with flashes of turquoise through the scales, while the red edging in the fins adds just enough contrast to keep the look crisp rather than muted.

In a planted aquarium she changes character with the light. Under softer lighting she reads cool and pastel; when she turns toward the glass the iridescence brightens and the blue becomes more pronounced. The shorter Plakat finnage keeps her silhouette neat and athletic, making her an elegant centrepiece without the oversized fins of many male Bettas.

Care & keeping

Species: Betta splendens
Sex: Female
Fin type: Plakat / short-fin
Adult size: approximately 5–6 cm
Temperature: 24–28°C
pH: 6.5–7.5
Recommended tank: 20L+ for a single female
Difficulty: Beginner to intermediate

Give her warm, stable water, gentle flow and plenty of structure. Bettas appreciate broad-leaved plants, floating cover and resting points near the surface. Feed a varied carnivorous diet built around quality Betta pellets, with frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp, daphnia and bloodworm used to add variety.

Temperament & compatibility

Female Bettas are often more flexible than males, but they are still territorial fish. A calm community can work with carefully chosen tankmates, while sorority-style groups require substantially more space, dense planting and close observation. Individual temperament matters more than sex alone.

Best for: aquarists looking for a premium female Betta in South Africa with a soft pastel palette and compact Plakat form.
