Hydroball LECA Expanded Clay Media – 50L (9–16mm)

Whether you're building a Koi pond biofilter or filling an aquaponics grow bed, Hydroball LECA gives you a reusable, lightweight medium that is easy to work with. These expanded clay granules are approximately 9–16 mm across and supplied in a generous 50-litre bag.

Where it works best

Pond and aquarium biofilters: The clay aggregate provides surfaces for beneficial bacteria to colonise once a filter has matured. It can form part of a properly designed biological filtration system, but it does not replace mechanical filtration, adequate flow or routine water testing.

Aquaponics and hydroponics: The porous medium helps anchor plant roots while allowing drainage and access to air and moisture. It can also be used as a growing medium for suitable container-grown plants.

Before using

Rinse the media thoroughly to remove clay dust and fines before adding it to a filter or grow bed. In a Koi pond, secure loose media in a suitable chamber or basket so it cannot be swallowed or scattered by fish. LECA may float initially; pre-soaking and the filter's layout will affect how it sits. Check the amount you need against the actual dimensions and design of your filter.

Please note: This is one 50-litre bag of 9–16 mm media, not the smaller 2–4 mm grade. Delivery of bulky bags may be quoted separately depending on destination.
