A Nisai offering from NND listed as a Gosanke Chimmy mix. Nisai describes a fish in its second year, while Gosanke covers Kohaku, Sanke and Showa. The supplier’s “Chimmy” label is a commercial mix name, not a formally established Koi variety.

Supplier code: KN26-15  |  Listed size: 20–25 cm

What to look for in this Koi

For Gosanke, take the time to assess the whites, reds and any black markings in relation to body shape and skin quality. Black (sumi) can develop or shift with maturity. A 20–25 cm Nisai can still have plenty of growing to do, so leave generous pond capacity for its adult size.

Pond requirements and day-to-day care

Species: Japanese ornamental Koi (Cyprinus carpio). These are social, long-lived pond fish that can exceed 60 cm, with some growing considerably larger. Keep with suitably sized Koi rather than in small indoor aquariums. Provide substantial swimming volume, strong biological and mechanical filtration, aeration, shade and protection from predators. Actual pond volume depends on adult stocking density and filtration; allow several thousand litres for a small group and plan for growth.

Water: Aim for stable, well-oxygenated water around 15–25°C, pH roughly 7.0–8.5, and zero measurable ammonia and nitrite. Koi tolerate seasonal temperature variation if changes are gradual, but heat, low oxygen and abrupt shifts are dangerous. Test water routinely and perform sensible partial water changes using dechlorinated water.

Feeding: Offer a reputable Koi pellet suited to fish size and water temperature. Feed only what is eaten promptly; reduce feeding as the water cools and follow temperature-specific food guidance. Uneaten food and aggressive growth feeding increase water pollution.

Introducing your fish: Arrange suitable live-fish transport before ordering. Have a separate observation/quarantine system ready, compare transport and pond conditions, and acclimate carefully without adding transport water to the pond. Monitor the fish before mixing it with established stock.

Choosing and receiving your Koi

Illustrative image: The image is AI-generated to explain the advertised type; it is not a photograph of the fish offered. Pattern, colouring, body shape, sex and exact measured length may vary. Request current photos/video and supplier confirmation for individually priced specimens before purchase.

Availability: Supplier availability is subject to individual selection, confirmation and transport suitability. Large Koi may require specialist collection or quoted transport rather than standard livestock courier pricing.
