The Premium Samurai Plakat Female Betta has a darker, more dramatic look than most female Bettas. A black base runs beneath metallic armour-like scaling across the upper body, while rich red fins bring warmth into the pattern. The effect is layered rather than uniform, with the fish changing appearance as the light moves across the scales.

That shifting contrast is the appeal of the Samurai look. In shadow the body appears deep and dark; under stronger light the reflective scaling becomes brighter and more pronounced. Against planted backgrounds, this gives the fish a premium, almost lacquered finish that is difficult to replicate with simpler colour forms.

Care & keeping

Species: Betta splendens
Sex: Female
Fin type: Plakat / short-fin
Colour type: Samurai-type metallic pattern
Adult size: approximately 5–6 cm
Temperature: 24–28°C
pH: 6.5–7.5
Recommended tank: 20L+ for a single female
Difficulty: Beginner to intermediate

Use warm, stable water, gentle filtration and a structured aquarium with plants and wood. Feed a quality carnivorous diet using Betta pellets as the staple, supplemented with frozen or live brine shrimp, daphnia and bloodworm in moderation.

Temperament & compatibility

Female Bettas are still territorial fish, and premium colour strains are no different. Some individuals are relaxed, while others can dominate a tank. Provide multiple hiding places and sight breaks, especially when keeping more than one female.

Best for: collectors looking for a premium Samurai-type female Betta in South Africa with strong metallic contrast.
