Care & keeping

Current size: 4–5 cm
Expected adult size: approximately 15–25 cm depending on final species identity
Temperature: 24–28°C
pH: 6.0–7.5
Recommended tank: 200L+ for a group
Difficulty: Intermediate

Botia-type loaches are social fish and should not be kept as isolated individuals. Keep a group with smooth substrate, caves, driftwood and strong filtration. A varied omnivorous diet of sinking pellets, frozen foods, snails and occasional vegetable matter suits them well.

Temperament & compatibility

Expect a lively, sometimes boisterous fish. They are usually best with robust community species rather than very timid or slow-moving tankmates. A group helps spread normal social sparring and reduces pressure on a single fish.
