Add a striking splash of golden-yellow colour to your planted aquarium with Yellow Shrimp. These small freshwater dwarf shrimp are fascinating to watch as they explore moss, leaves, driftwood and hardscape, constantly picking at naturally occurring biofilm and fine food particles. Their vivid colour shows particularly well against dark substrate and green aquatic plants, making them a beautiful choice for dedicated shrimp tanks and peaceful, mature freshwater displays.

Why You'll Love Them

  • Bright yellow colour: a standout contrast in planted and natural-style aquascapes.
  • Active natural grazers: spend much of the day exploring surfaces for biofilm and edible particles.
  • Peaceful and engaging: ideal for observing close-up behaviour in a species-focused shrimp aquarium.
  • Small adult size: well suited to thoughtfully maintained nano setups.
  • Excellent in groups: keeping multiple shrimp encourages natural activity and viewing opportunities.

Care Requirements

  • Supplier listing: Yellow Shrimp (SHR-0215)
  • Supplied size: approximately 2.5–3 cm.
  • Recommended aquarium: mature, stable freshwater setup; around 20 litres or larger is a practical starting point.
  • Temperature: approximately 20–26 °C for commonly sold yellow Neocaridina-type dwarf shrimp.
  • pH: approximately 6.5–7.5, prioritising stable water parameters.
  • Diet: biofilm, suitable shrimp pellets, occasional blanched vegetables and supplementary minerals as appropriate.
  • Filtration: gentle flow and a shrimp-safe intake, such as a mature sponge filter.
  • Temperament: peaceful but vulnerable to fish that may prey on small invertebrates.

Setting Up Their Aquarium

A mature tank with mosses, leaf litter, wood and dense plants supplies grazing areas and shelter. Use dechlorinated water and avoid sudden parameter or temperature changes. Shrimp are particularly sensitive to copper-containing medications and other unsuitable aquarium treatments. Drip acclimation is often helpful when there is a difference between transport water and aquarium conditions.

Compatibility and Breeding

A dedicated shrimp colony is ideal, particularly if breeding is a goal. In mixed aquariums, choose fish carefully: even small, peaceful fish may eat shrimplets. Yellow dwarf shrimp commonly traded as Neocaridina davidi colour morphs can breed in stable freshwater conditions; the exact supplier strain or grade has not been independently confirmed for this listing. Keep colour lines separately if maintaining a particular colour is important.
